Hello UPLS Members,
The Fall 2019 ACS National
Meeting is quickly approaching. It will be held Aug 25-29, 2019, in San Diego,
CA. The ACS Council will Council will convene on Wednesday, August 28, 8:00 am, in the Hilton
San Diego Bayfront Sapphire Ballroom A&B. ACS Council Meetings are open, and
visitors are welcome. If you are in San Diego, consider attending and observe
ACS Governance in action. The Council agenda for this meeting includes:
Committee Membership Elections:
Council Policy Committee (CPC) – 5
Nominees.
Committee on
Committees (ConC) – 5 Nominees.
Committee on
Nominations and Elections (N&E)- 5 Nominees.
Highlights:
Council will be asked to approve the
updated Chemical Professional’s Code of Conduct.
ConC will seek Council approval on a
recommendation for the continuance of the Committees on International
Activities (IAC) and Professional Training (CPT).
N&E will seek Council approval to
move Pittsburgh Local Section from District II to District III. (The total
membership in District III is below the permissible minimum and this move will
bring both Districts II and III into the permissible range.)
Council will be asked to approve a
new International Chemical Sciences Chapter, The Georgia International Chemical
Sciences Chapter, which will consist of the territory of the Republic of
Georgia.

(CCA) & Local Section Activities Committee (LSAC) Joint Open Meeting:
Tuesday, August 27, 2:00 – 3:30 PM, Hilton San Diego Bayfront, Aqua Salon D.
These committees oversee Chemists Celebrate Earth Week (CCEW) and National
Chemistry Week (NCW), and local section grants (Sci-Café, Innovative Project
Grants, etc..).
ChemLuminary Awards: Tuesday, August
27, 8:00 – 11:59 PM, Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. The UPLS is a finalist
in the category: Best Activity or
Program Stimulating Member Involvement. If you are at the meeting, come join us
